In the fall of 2014, I ventured into the city of Shanghai to research the living conditions of internal migrant workers. As of that year, migrant workers, people who left their hometown in search for employment opportunities and higher standards of living in a bigger city, make up 260 million of the population in China and over 40% of Shanghai's long-term residents are migrant workers. Along with 3 others, I conducted numerous interviews of migrant workers to collect ethnographic data and perused scholarly literature written on the subject in preparation for writing an extensive research on internal migrant workers in China. The end result is a magazine style booklet presenting the final research. Stepping Stones, the non-profit organization that I was working with at the time, helped distribute and display this document
